So, What Are Your Goals… Bulking or Cutting?
There are three things you generally hear in relation to fitness and weight management: bulking, cutting…maingaining . All of these have their own purpose and knowing them will help you to get the shape that should fit your medically proper body size.
What is Bulking?
During this time you can increase your calories to be in a surplus and its called bulking phase. This almost always involves building muscle. A body builders bulks when they eat more calories than their bodies burns. They do this by eating more, largely protein based meals. For example, during a bulking phase one might eat chicken, rice nuts and whole grain. Additionally, those who bulk often weightlift to assure they are putting on muscle and not just packing away fat. Of course the goal here is to gain relatively lean weight (in other words you should consider this… not in a pure fat % number BUT instead think about it and compare yourself vs pictures) KEY:to try and minimize your total net bodyfat received from doing so.
What is Cutting?
Bulking is essentially the opposite of cutting. It is the time when you are trying to cut, so that you may show off those muscles which brought moving up phase. When you cut, you are eating less calories than what your burn. This equates to eating smaller amounts and making better food choices. Somethings required after surgery are to eat lots of fruits, veggies, lean meats. So and so works out during this phase as well, but they might do more cardio to burn fat. We want to burn fat and preserve as much muscle whilst doing so
What is Maingaining?
Maingaining is the happy medium between bulking and cutting. This is the phase where you are at maintenance your current weight and slowly building muscle. You consume as many calories as you spend but make sure to eat good quality food. Naturally, in maingain mode (see more about the concept below), you’re not going to see huge changes from your body at once but over time they can slowly build muscle while maintaining weight and a lean healthy look.
